Why work with us
A Place to Learn, Develop and Do Good Work
Working at United Support Services is not about just turning up. We want staff to understand the people they support, think about why things happen and keep developing their practice.
We support adults with learning disabilities and autism across St Austell and the surrounding area, with a strong focus on independence, quality of life and understanding behaviour.
Our Approach
We Try to Understand, Not Just React
When someone is distressed or their behaviour becomes difficult, we do not simply accept it as being part of their disability.
We look at what may have happened before, what the person may be communicating, what they might need and what we can learn from the situation.
Positive Behaviour Support
Our PBS team works alongside staff to review behaviour, identify patterns and develop practical approaches that improve quality of life.
Behaviour Analysis
We work with Board Certified Behaviour Analyst, who provides specialist behavioural input into our practice. As a team we aim to meet with him once per week for guidance.
PACE & Positive Behaviour Management
Staff receive training in approaches that support calm, thoughtful and consistent responses when situations become difficult.
PERMA & Wellbeing
We use the PERMA framework to think about positive emotion, engagement, relationships, meaning and achievement in people’s lives.

Leadership & Management
Progression depends on ability, values, development and the needs of the organisation. We do not believe that progression should be based on how long someone has worked somewhere.
